Discussion.

On Thursday, severe thunderstorms caused damage over southern and 
central Quebec. Wind gusts broke and uprooted many trees, causing 
numerous power outages. Heavy rains also flooded some streets 
locally. 

The following is a summary of the observed data and damage reports 
collected by Environment Canada. 

1. Wind gust speed (in kilometres per hour) 
- Montreal (airport): 96 
- Lake Saint-Pierre: 119 

2. Rainfall amount (in millimetres) 
- Shawinigan: 75 

3. Damage reports 
- Saint-Zéphirin-de-Courval: Roofs torn off, trees broken and 
uprooted, and fallen electricity poles. 
- Louiseville: Collapsed barn, roofs torn off and many fallen trees. 
- Saint-Michel-des-Saints: Trees fallen on power lines. 
- L'Assomption: Large event tent blown away and many trees broken. 
- Mirabel: Trees broken and uprooted. 
- Montreal: Damaged brick wall and several broken trees. 
- Saint-Dominique: Properties damaged by falling trees.
