SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT
A mix of rain and snow tonight and Thanksgiving Monday for much of southern Saskatchewan. Where: Areas in and around the Trans-Canada Highway and south to the international border. What: A mix of rain and snow, with potentially 5 to 10 cm of wet snow accumulating tonight through the end of Monday. Remarks: Another low pressure system will develop in Montana today and spread a band of significant precipitation into southern Saskatchewan. Latest indications continue to intensify this system, increasing the amount of rain and snow forecast for the area. Precipitation will begin as rain later today but will become mixed with increasing snow through the night as temperatures drop back to zero degrees. Temperatures will linger near the freezing mark through Monday with continued snowfall before tapering off Monday night. Final accumulations will vary widely due to a combination of melting from milder ground temperatures and changes to precipitation type and intensity. Broadly, 5 cm of heavy, wet snow is anticipated, with locally higher amounts. Travel conditions could deteriorate quickly due to a combination of accumulating snow, sudden poor visibilities, and icy patches. Take frequent breaks when shovelling snow. When skies clear on Tuesday, any fallen snow will swiftly melt away as temperatures rebound for the remainder of the week. Watch for updated forecasts and additional potential weather alerts as the event nears. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to SKstorm@ec.gc.ca, call 1-800-239-0484 or post reports on social media using #SKStorm.
